About Us
Sustainable Wheatley is a community group with a shared interest in stepping lightly on our planet through sustainable practices. These practices include actions to reduce waste and support action to recover biodiversity.
Sustainable Wheatley has had several incarnations dating back to 1986 when some Wheatley residents, who were members of Friends of the Earth, decided to band together to advance the ideas of sustainablity in their local community.
Past projects include collaborating on a Fairtrade village accreditation, collaborating to help the local secondary school get solar panels, composting guides, recycling guides, and other ongoing projects that are listed on this website.

We are pleased to announce that Sustainable Wheatley, on behalf of Littleworth Nature Reserve, has been awarded a grant of £450 by South Oxfordshire District Council to fit handrails and to provide a better surface at the steps at the far end of the Reserve near Sandy Lane. It is hoped that this work will start in March 2026 and will be completed within two months. Many thanks to Councillor Peter Ramsdale for supporting this grant application, and to SODC for providing the funding. We would also like to thank some individuals who have generously donated to this project. (March 2026)
